The Walker River is located in the heart of Walker, California, and is known as a premium fishing destination spot in the Eastern Sierra. The River is divided into 4 sub basins namely: East West Walker, Walker, Walker River and Walker Lake. Under the Walker River fisheries slope is the East Walker River the best trout fishing destination.
Walker River fishing areas
The East Walker river rises on the Bridgeport Valley of the Mono County and ends at the Lake Walker in Hawthorne, Nevada. The River is abundant with many stoneflies, mayflies, Brown, and mosquitoes that is the most important fish food supply. The East Walker River fishing area is known for its premier trophy trout catches. The environment also offers great opportunities to catch large rainbow trout as well.
The West Walker River is the best trout fishing destination when all other Walker River flows slow. It is a small stream in the mountains of Sonora Pass to the Leavitt Meadows is located. Fish species found along these areas are Brook, Rainbow, Brown and mountain whitefish. Fish in this area are also smaller in size compared with other flows.
Walker Lake, on the other hand, is a natural lake located in the Western Nevada. Cutthroat trout fishing in this area are very abundant and usually spawn around the month of March and April. But it is also known that Walker Lake faces a great danger and the water level has been decreased to about 4 feet per year and on how long the cutthroat fishing action will continue is still uncertain.
Each of the areas Walker River has its own strengths and weaknesses, but fishermen keep coming back. Many lodging accommodations are available around the area. Walker River is also a good stop for people up to Lake Tahoe. The River is not only famous for its fishing activities, but also for the beautiful landscape.
