The 630-acre Corey Lake in St. Joseph County is a popular fishing zone with good water quality in the St. Joseph River watershed. Crappie action in the winter is great on the Lake, which is also well stocked with largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill, walleye, and rainbow trout. A State-owned boat ramp provides access to the public on the Lake with parking for 10 vehicles and their trailers. The Lake belongs to the larger natural lakes in Southwest Michigan and the second largest lake in St. Joseph County, with a maximum depth of 80 meters. If you're looking for largemouth bass and rainbow trout, Corey Lake is a good place to cast your line. Corey Lake has a limit of 10-inch size largemouth bass. However, there are plenty of greater good on Texas rigged worms, Erie darters, wacky worms and poppers bite. Fishing the flats, docks, cane and drop-offs can you have a good trek of bass. Crankbaits work well at a depth of 10 to 15 metres. Bluegill action also picks up during the months of August and September. Make sure you have a valid permit of the MDNR before you head out into the Lake. More on the North coast you will find two YMCA camps with different facilities.
