Lake Daniel was located more than 950 acre in Stephens County, almost 65 miles northeast of Abilene, built in 1948 on Gonzales Creek. It is 42 feet maximum deep. It is controlled and operated by the city of Breckenridge. The Lake provides water supply to the city. It usually has low water level and was the almost dry during 2003-2007. The fishing is limited to a boat ramp area. Several attempts have been undertaken to save drought. The ecology of the reservoir consists of different types of fish, black willow, button, brushes, water lilies and rock structures. These provide the excellent habitat largemouth bass. Some aquatic vegetation such as Illinois floating pound weed, smart weed and American lotus are also provided. Lake Daniel has with several varieties of fish such as largemouth bass, channel catfish, and white crappie are stocked. Black Bullhead, bluegill, Shad and provide fodder largemouth bass. Largemouth bass is the big fish found in abundance here. Catfish found here measures 21 inch in length. Black Crappie and white Crappie are other types of fish caught and found here. All these species are managed with statewide fishing regulations and fishermen have to abide by these rules.
